Labral Tears

The labrum is additional tissue to make the cup part of the joint deeper for greater stability. Labral Tears occur at the edge of the socket around the rim of the hip and shoulder joints. Injuries to the labrum in the shoulder are the most common, but lately there has been an increased awareness of ones in the hip. There are two types of labral tears. A traumatic tear is usually due to a fall, accident or sports injury and can happen because of a sudden, twisting movement. A degenerative tear is due to constant repetitive motions and is considered chronic.
